Goals & Expectations

Coworkers working together in the office with the help of technology

What do you think Human Performance Technology (HPT) entails?

The end goal of a practical HPT approach is to enhance individual and organizational effectiveness and efficiency. HPT takes a holistic view of performance by considering worker motivation, training programs, administrative support, mentoring, and continuous improvement through monitoring.

What skills and knowledge do you already have that you feel relate to the content of this course?

I performed undergraduate work in organizational management, focusing on systems engineering to optimize efficiency and streamline workflows. I have spearheaded an overhaul of several administrative systems at my institute to maximize efficiency while increasing accuracy and reducing errors. I am a natural systematic thinker who values continuous improvement.

What do you hope to gain from this course?

I plan to develop transferrable skills during this course to practice in my work. I also seek to collaborate with my peers to learn from their experiences and broaden my perspective on implementing HPT principles in various industry sectors.

What do you expect to contribute to this course?

Though my experience is narrowly developed within the construction training industry, I hope to provide insight for my peers into the methods we use to develop talent and optimize performance. As I progress through this course, I plan to offer constructive feedback to my peers. I am eager to collaborate and ideate with my peers to develop novel, research-supported methods to increase human performance.

How do you believe you will use what you learn in this course in your future career?

I have a natural gift for spotting inefficiencies. Early in my career, I focused more on the problem and less on the solution. One of my mentors advised me to develop a range of possible solutions to solve an inefficiency before running to the director’s office and “problem dumping.” I continue to see this mentality as I have moved through the ranks in my career. Many employees are eager to spot problems but could be more effective at developing solutions. I am committed to ideating solutions using the HPT framework that can make a measurable impact at my institute.
